Greig Nori believes that Deryck is a child who is very ambitious to become a rock star. In July 2006, Avril Lavigne married Deryck, who was engaged one year earlier. Earlier that same year, Sum 41 guitarist Dave resigned from Sum 41. The reason is because Dave felt it was no longer suitable music Sum 41. Deryck has in fact revealed that Dave was not interested anymore with Sum 41 music streams from the album Does This Look infected?. And finally after listening to examples of songs on the album Underclass Hero, Dave decided to resign and make a metal band called Brown Brigade.

Cone was also having a side-project band called The Operation MD and wing-Garage Rock-Alternative. Cone alone with Todd Morse (H2O, Juliette & The licks) does not menginkan many distortions in this band. This doctor-concept band that released an album in February 2007, entitled "We Have an Emergency" and only sold in Canada.
